On Thursday, India put Bangladesh on the backfoot by scoring 339 runs for 6 wickets. Ashwin scored an unbeaten 102 and Jadeja scored an unbeaten 86.

Bangladesh has lost its grip on the match, but a big problem is that despite getting an extra half-hour to bowl, the team fell 10 overs short of the target. Due to this, the team can be penalized by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

This has added to their troubles as just last month, Bangladesh had to pay three points of the World Test Championship and a fine of 15 per cent of their match fee. They were fined after being found three overs short in the first Test match against Pakistan.

Talking about the ongoing match against India, Bangladesh could bowl only 80 overs in the entire day. They bowled 23 overs in the first session, 25 overs in the second and 32 overs in the last session of the first day.

“Bangladesh bowled less than 80 overs despite being given an extra half hour. This is unacceptable,” cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

As per Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship Playing Conditions – “A team will be deducted one (1) World Test Championship competition point from its total points for each penalty over it concedes during the round stage.”
