I’ve never been a fan of poetry, although I love words and language. Put it to music and it’s a different matter – and I think the best songwriters are poets too. But ask me to talk about scansion and stanza and I get a bit lost. All of this is a way of justifying why I needed two prompts for what, for some people, would probably be a fairly simple Strands puzzle.
I already understood what THEME was, the hint of ‘a way with words’ and the fact that I found RHYME by chance put me on the right track. But although I saw a few more, I couldn’t figure them all out without help for METAR and STANZA. After that I saw SPANGRAM, and the rest were solved by a combination of guesswork and my little knowledge.
