Antonio Conte: Napoli “melted like snow” in opening defeat

Naples Coach Antonio Conte has apologized to the fans after his team lost in their 0:3 defeat at Hellas Verona on Sunday.

It was Conte’s first game as coach of the 2023 team Cup Winners who finished a disappointing 10th in the table last season.

“I am the coach and it is right that I take full responsibility,” said Conte after Napoli’s opening defeat.

“I apologize with all modesty because the second half was unacceptable. We fell behind and then melted like snow in the sun. There is something to be ashamed of and there is a lot to do in every respect. I must now apologize to the Neapolitans who show us so much affection and passion.”

The former Chelsea And Tottenham The coach could not hide his disappointment after his team failed to respond to the deficit in the 50th minute.

“Apart from the discussion on the transfer market, it is worrying to see the second half and that we melted like snow when we first encountered difficulties,” said Conte. “I arrived in Naples with great enthusiasm and great desire. I can make myself available in any situation. If I can help Naples, I will do so.”

Naples star Victor Osimhen was not used on Sunday, Nigeria Striker who wants to leave the club in this transfer window.

Osimhen is an alleged target for Paris Saint GermainChelsea and arsenal.

When asked why Osimhen did not play, Conte said: “You have to ask the club, not me. I see that Osimhen has been training separately since the previous season. I was considered a spectator in this matter.”

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna said Osimhen’s transfer is currently “blocked” and a solution must be found for his future.

Conte, meanwhile, hopes that reinforcements will come before the transfer market closes.

“One, two, three, four could come, as many as the club wants to sign,” said Conte.
