The San Francisco 49ers and star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk constantly talk about a new contract extension, which seems “Movement for a deal” according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. There has been a lot of talk about other teams being involved, like the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it seems likely that Aiyuk will remain with the 49ers starting Week 1.

49ers fans may not be too surprised by this, as further reports suggested that Aiyuk would return to his original team. This has been a huge odyssey with numerous misdirections, such as the involvement of the Steelers and the preparation of a contract and a transfer, but Albert Breer of Sports Illustrate reported that The contracts were similar for both teams which resumed extension talks with San Francisco.

“The Brandon Aiyuk thing is dragging on and I don’t have much to add,” Breer wrote about the Aiyuk situation and the contracts with the 49ers and Steelers. “The San Francisco 49ers star didn’t want to go to New England, where he was offered more than $30 million per year in offers, or to the Cleveland Browns. The Steelers’ price was less than $28 million, which put Pittsburgh right near the Niners… That, in turn, forced Aiyuk back to the negotiating table with the Niners.”

Aiyuk had persevered of practice due to contract negotiations, where he believes he should be paid like a top receiver in the game. Last season, Aiyuk recorded 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns as he enters his fifth season in the NFL.

He is a key part of the 49ers offense, which consists of quarterback Brock Purdy, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, running back Christian McCaffrey, tight end George Kittle and others. Keeping Aiyuk would be huge for San Francisco with Week 1 looming, but it also helps to know that the Star pass catcher prefers to stay with them, according to Mike Garafolo.

“I’m told that Brandon Aiyuk would prefer to stay with the 49ers and has always preferred that,” Garafolo said Tuesday. “All other things being equal. Well, they weren’t equal, but they made that offer. In fact, both sides have been sending proposals over the last … a couple of days, a week or so and the 49ers’ numbers have gotten better than they were before. And they’ve come to an agreement, as I understand it, on many of the main points of the deal.

The 49ers start their season on Monday, September 9th, against the New York Jets.
