There was no large sample that Shane Steichen can determine who their best quarterback is between Anthony Richardson And Joe FlaccoOn the one hand Indianapolis Colts will have a great mentor-mentee relationship because of the good rapport between the young gun and the veteran. On the other hand, it could be a quarterback dilemma that is about to implode. Kirk Herbstreit posed that very big question to the Midwestern team during their NFL preseason win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Colts finished their NFL preseason on a strong note, beating the Bengals by a convincing 27-14 score while using multiple people at the signal-caller position and testing different strategies. However, Shane Steichen has not yet made a final decision on who their consistent starting quarterback would be. Kirk Herbstreit only had to Compare how Anthony Richardson’s expectations would be with how consistently It’s Joe Flacco, according to The Comeback.

“If you’re Shane Steichen, that’s the best case scenario for Anthony Richardson. He’s meeting our expectations for running and throwing and he’s healthy. This team is having a great year and he’s a superstar. What if he struggles? What if he has a good drive and a good game and then a bad one? He’s a pick and everyone expects him to be the best. With a guy like Joe Flacco and the roster they have, I wonder how you’re going to handle that when it gets to that point. Because you know what you’re going to get with Joe Flacco,” he explained.

How has Anthony Richardson performed for the Colts so far?

It’s hard to predict what Richardson will do in his second year based on his performance in the NFL preseason. Coach Steichen decided to play several quarterbacks like Jason Bean, Kedon Slovis and Sam Ehlinger alongside Richardson, meaning there wasn’t enough time to get a sample of what he’ll look like. But he managed to complete eight passes for 86 yards on 14 pass attempts. All of that also earned them a touchdown, but an interception set the Colts back quite a bit.

Last season, Richardson only played in five games and started four of them. During that time, he was sacked seven times but still managed 577 yards on 59.5% passing on 84 attempts. Year two will be the clearest indicator of where the Colts are going at quarterback. Will they choose Joe Flacco or Richardson?
