Real Salt Lake signs M Emeka Eneli until 2028
Real Salt Lake and midfielder Emeka Eneli agreed on Thursday to an extension until the 2028 season.
The deal includes a 2029 option for the 24-year-old Eneli, a first-round draft pick in 2023.
Eneli has scored one goal and three assists in 24 games (23 starts) so far this season.
“Emeka’s rise over the last 18 months has been impressive and his quick understanding of our game model has made him a reliable member of our core,” said football boss Kurt Schmid in a press release.
“His presence in our dressing room and on the grounds makes it clear that he is an incredible person and player. We have made it a priority to secure a new contract, reward him for the development he has shown in his first two seasons and ensure he stays here for the long term. Everyone inside and outside the club should be excited about his role with us on and off the field.”
Eneli appeared in 21 games (13 starts) as a rookie in 2023 after being drafted 25th overall by Cornell.
“I’m very grateful and I just try to put my head down and work, focus on my football and know that the rest will come by itself,” said Eneli. “The club has been very fair and very transparent in the negotiations, I’m grateful for that, and my agent has obviously been very helpful.”
