The Pittsburgh Steelers have an interesting roster this season and it starts with the quarterback position, where experienced veteran Russell Wilson is battling with young talent Justin Fields for the starting spot.

As the third and final weekend of preseason games approaches, teams across the NFL are beginning to take small steps to prepare for reducing their rosters to 53 men.

According to their official Twitter account, the Steelers placed offensive guard Nate Herbig on the injured list on Tuesday, released defensive back Anthony Averett and signed linebacker Kyahva Tezino and defensive lineman Marcus Haynes.

Herbig was placed on the injured list due to a torn rotator cuff and will therefore miss the entire season.

The Hawaiian native was undrafted in 2019 and has played a total of 61 games for the Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets.

Averett was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 draft out of the University of Alabama and peaked in 2022 when he appeared in 14 games and started for the Baltimore Ravens, recording 11 passes defensed and three interceptions.

Tezino was a standout player during his five years at San Diego State University, and after going undrafted in 2020, he spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons in the United States Football League.

There, he recorded a total of 179 tackles and 2.5 sacks before being briefly assigned to the San Francisco 49ers during training camp last summer.

Haynes was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Denver Broncos last year and has yet to play an NFL regular season game.
