Thierry Henry has resigned as France U21 coach after winning a Olympics Silver medal in Paris Beginning of the month.

The 47-year-old had a contract until next summer, but has decided to leave his post after just one year in office.

“Winning the silver medal for my country at the Olympics will always be one of the greatest achievements of my life,” said Henry.

“I am incredibly grateful to the association, the players, the staff and the fans for allowing me to have this magical experience.”

Before his appointment by France, Henry had worked as assistant coach of Belgium with leadership positions in Monaco and Major League Soccer team Montreal Impact.

“On behalf of the FFF (French Football Federation), I would like to thank Thierry Henry for all the work he has done at the helm of the U21 and Olympic teams,” said FFF President Philippe Diallo.

“We naturally regret this decision, as Thierry Henry was able to achieve his goals by winning the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Paris 40 years after his Olympic medal in Los Angeles.
