US Open qualification: Britons Billy Harris and Lily Miyazaki win first round matches

The British Billy Harris and Lily Miyazaki have made it to the second qualifying round of the US Open.

Harris, who played in the main draw of a major tournament for the first time in July at Wimbledon, beat Argentinian Juan Manuel Cerundolo and secured a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory.

Miyazaki had previously won 6-2, 6-4 against Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic.

The 28-year-old won three qualifying matches in New York last year, making her debut in the main draw of a Grand Slam.

Oliver Crawford lost to American JJ Wolf 4-6, 4-6, while Jan Choinski and Fran Jones will play later on Tuesday.

They will attempt to join Harris and Miyazaki, along with fellow Brits Heather Watson, Paul Jubb and Sonay Kartal. who all won on Monday, in the second round.

Watson will face second seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich on Wednesday, while Jubb will play against Finland’s Otto Virtanen and Kartal will play against Switzerland’s Simona Waltert.
