Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins turned 36 on Monday and the team released its birthday practice playlist, which is essentially a list of rock hits from the 2000s.
This playlist went viral and Cousins was featured in a performance on Friday at The Rich Eisen Show (Conversation starts at minute 14:45).
Cousins clarified that the team asked for song requests for practice in April “via the team app” and he sent back “over 100” songs.
Fast forward to Monday, and Cousins shared that song after song was one of his favorites during practice. The playlist is managed by an assistant coach, and Cousins complimented that person. It turns out the playlist was put together specifically for Cousins, who was clearly enjoying the moment.
Cousins also noted that many of these songs were from his time in middle and high school, before adding with a smile that the “sad reality” is that “most” of his teammates don’t know any of the songs because there is a “12-year age difference” between them and him.
“When I listened to them in middle school, they were about four years old, so sometimes I had to teach them what the 1990s were like and hope for the best,” Cousins added.
Cousins is in his first year with the Falcons after signing a four-year, $180 million deal with them in the offseason. Atlanta opens the regular season at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 8.
