Beirut (Lebanon), Sep 19 (ANI): At least 14 people were killed and 450 others injured in walkie-talkie explosions in Lebanon, CNN reported citing Lebanon’s Health Ministry.

The latest attack comes just a day after coordinated bombings in Lebanon killed 12 people and injured more than 2,800 others.

Dozens of ambulance teams from the Lebanese Red Cross were working to rescue and evacuate people injured after walkie-talkie explosions in Lebanon on Wednesday, CNN reports.

More than 30 teams of Lebanese Red Cross emergency medical workers were working in southern Lebanon, Beirut’s southern suburbs, and the central Bekaa Valley. In addition, 50 ambulance teams were on alert in Mount Lebanon and Beirut to help with evacuation efforts.

The Lebanese Civil Defence said they were working to extinguish a fire that engulfed 60 homes and shops, including a lithium battery store, after the walkie-talkie exploded.

In Nebatiyeh governorate, 15 cars and dozens of motorcycles caught fire and two fingerprint devices were destroyed, CNN reported.

Earlier on Tuesday, Lebanon’s health ministry instructed health workers to report to work immediately due to “a large number of injured people being transferred to hospitals” following the pager blasts, CNN reported. Officials have also urged people to donate blood in anticipation of a growing need.

Hezbollah on Tuesday blamed Israel for the pager explosions and vowed revenge. Meanwhile, Lebanese authorities urged people who own pagers to give them up.

Following the rocket explosions in Lebanon, Jordan on Tuesday expressed its readiness to “provide any medical assistance needed by the Lebanese medical sector to treat the thousands of Lebanese citizens who have been injured.”

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reiterated “Jordan’s support for the security, sovereignty and stability of Lebanon” during a telephone conversation with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, according to a Jordanian Foreign Ministry statement, CNN reports.

Safadi stressed that the Israeli aggression on Gaza must be stopped “immediately, halting the dangerous escalation being witnessed in the region.” Hamas blamed Israel for the explosions in Lebanon on Tuesday and expressed solidarity with Hezbollah and the Lebanese people, CNN reported.

In a statement Hamas said, “We, in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), strongly condemn the Zionist terrorist aggression which targeted Lebanese civilians by exploding communications equipment as well as civilian and service facilities in various areas of Lebanese territory.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) declined to comment on the matter on Tuesday. In its first statement after the blasts, the IDF said that there has been no change in the advice given to the people. (ANI)
